Dance Film
The dance films showcased in "The Parallel Gap" Performance Installation are an extension of my previous research into the Theories of Corporeality, Under Umbrella.
These dance films were shot in Hong Kong and London and explore the emotional landscape of these locations and how they contribute to identity construction. Through this somatic practice as research, the films capture the transitions and mobility between spaces and the complexity of diaspora and existence in the world.
In the research and development phase 1, the idea of dramaturgy emerged as a common area of enquiry for us, requiring that our position as Hongkongers towards HOME and identity through experimental tasks of embodied practice and somatic practice, with touches, conversation, drawing and sharing. We question in an attempt to create a common ground in the social-political context. (Link R&D phase 1)

"FEEL LIKE HOME...?"
London, United Kingdom
Hong Kong
2024
The Dance screening "FEEL LIKE HOME...?" delves into the complex concept of "Home" and the roles of "Who Cares" within the parallel gap. Spanning locations in the UK and Hong Kong, each representing different facets of corporeal identity, this exploration prompts questions about how individual identities are constructed, deconstructed, and reconstructed based on personal experiences and social-historical contexts (Younge, 2007). Through the research process, which can be accessed via the provided link, I delve into the voices of individuals and the reflective roles of "Listeners," aiming to understand the multifaceted nature of "home" and its significance in identity formation.
While some footage gathered during the screendance process didn't make it into the final productions, the methodology of an embodiment of place and the visual politics of dance film remain central. Refer the understanding of the visual politics of dance film from Haga (2017), I journey through the diaspora experience, collecting insights about the sense of HOME as the Hongkonger with a political body interacting with political space.

"THE ART OF TOGETHERNESS"
London, United Kingdom
Hong Kong
2024
"The Art of Togetherness" is a documentary film blending reflection, activism, and participation. Inspired by artist Kimsooja’s work "A Needle Woman" (1999-2001), which examines the corporeal experience of standing alone in various urban settings, this film explores similar themes through my lens.
As an Asian woman, my body intersects with my political identity, navigating the parallel gap of mobility and immobility in society. This project interprets how spaces and bodies relate to the world, prompting questions and reflections on the existence of bodies and minds within the socio-political context.
